Fire Trail

Mairin brings you onwards for a bit, but something soon catches her attention in the distance. Her eyesight must be amazing, you can't make out whatever it is. However, it seems to require some sort of immediate action on Mairin's part, and she excuses herself, telling you to simply follow the path as she rushes off towards the unknown... thing.

You wander onwards, and the trees continue to thin out. Patches of sand are now intermixed with green splotches of grass, and the bark on the trees is papery. There don't seem to be many branches, just leaves at the tops of the trees. A few areas of sparkling blue alert you to small pools of water littered throughout the landscape, and the entire feel of the place reminds you of some sort of unconventional oasis.

The sun burns bright, and you keep your eyes down for the most part, avoiding the day-star's blinding dazzle. With it comes the heat, though, and when you find a pool of water near the path, the offer is too tempting. You sink onto a grass patch, lowering yourself to the water for a drink.

As you are drinking, you open your eyes, peering into the water. Your own hazy reflection shines back, but it almost looks as though there is something behind you. You turn your head back, slowly, and find that indeed, you are not alone.

The sun, behind the creature, causes it to appear as a silhouette. It is standing close to you, practically over you, in fact, it's-- his-- head raised high and arched, horn glittering. You have nowhere to go, unless you feel like swimming, his hooves are just about blocking you to the front and sides, and behind you is the small pond.

He stares down at you, pride radiating from every inch of his sleek body, and finally, he backs up, turning. You scramble to your feet, able to see him clearly now.

Eyes bright, the stallion stares at you, through you, and you find his gaze to burn even more than the sun. With a lash of his tail, he speaks.

"Bold are you, stranger, to help yourself before being offered."

You can find no response, in fact, you cannot seem to find your voice at all. The stallion does not seem to expect a response.

"So frail outsiders can be, though, and under such conditions, it is to be expected." The Crystal Unicorn finally breaks his gaze away from you, turning his head to stare at the sun, unblinking, eyes not even narrowing as he gazes at the orb, before he turns back to you.

A wind picks up, swirling around you, and picking up the stallions mane and tail, sending them into flight though the unicorn is completely still otherwise. You feel yourself moving, however, and the wind seems to be pushing you back onto the path.

"Be off," he speaks. "There is nothing more here for you to see." The wind picks up even more, and you unwillingly turn from the stallion, walking onwards down the path. You hear faint hoofbeats, fading in your ears, somewhere behind you...
