Fire Trail

You move onwards, out of the clearing and along down the path. After a bit, you pass through another semi-visible barrier, and you no longer feel wrapped in protection as you had.

The land seems to be growing a bit wilder; the former chirps of birds changing to shrieks, and you occasionally glimpse a bright bird flitting through the canopy. The trees, too, are changing; the leaves getting bigger and the trunks getting smaller. Vines start to drop down on either side of you, and one or two occasionally hang down in the middle of the path.

Soon enough the trail dips to the left, and it isn't long before it leads you to a pond. A tiny horsefly hovers above the water, looking curiously at you, while a fish swims in small circles underneath the water.

Near the edge of the pond is a smooth, oval stone of some sort. It has swirly white and light blue patterns on it, and names of the creatures carved into it. It reads:

Vance the Horsefly
and
Varil the River Skipper

Off to the side, you can see a portal. You imagine it must lead to these creatures' place of origin...

Finally, with a bit of regret, you continue onwards...
